As always we are losing friends and neighbors in SIA and having new neighbors join us.
Long time SIA resident JEAN ETZEL passed away at age 90 in late December 2024 with her family in Cincinnati after and extended illness. Jean and her late husband Frank spent many years in their home at 1860 E. Barefoot Pl. and were active members of our community. Jean served for a number of years on the Nominating Committee for SIA Board of Directors. She and her beloved little terrier Chip were seen regularly walking the neighborhood. A Memorial service was held for friends and family at her home on Feb. 22. The family has at this time decided to keep the house as a retreat for family and friends as they visit regularly.
Billie and Bob Thompson sold their home of 13 years at 1961 W. Barefoot Pl. and have moved back to their childhood roots in Oklahoma to be closer to family on March 1. Billie’s pet sitting and gardening skills will be missed by many of us. The new owner, Susan Lewis, is already in residence. Susan has lived in the non-association parts of Summerplace for about 14 years and knows many members of SIA. She will be a full time resident and plans to continue to enhance the gardens and plantings on the property that Billie and Bob worked on for so many years.
Carol Jascula sold her house at 1930 W. Shell Lane in February and has moved to Barefoot Bay north of Sebastian in Brevard County. Carol, had lived here for over 5 years. Cindy O’Dare, the new owner, is a Vero resident and will be using the house as a weekend getaway to the beach.
Welcome Susan and Cindy. We hope you enjoy your new community.
