Florida City Gas has installed a gas line North from A1A and Wabasso Road to Windsor and both Windsor and Orchid are being serviced as we speak. Several folks asked me if we could get gas service in SIA also. I contacted Florida City Gas – FCG – and found out it was possible and how it could happen.
- FCG has to determine the interest in the project to make it worth their investment. FCG would be willing to put main gas lines down any of our roads at no cost to the home owners if more than 50% of the home owners signed up for service.
- Once sufficient interest is determined, because our roads are private, SIA members would have to vote to approve of running the gas lines down our roads.
- The cost to run the lines to each home from the road would vary depending on each situation. How much the owner would pay for the installation would depend on how much gas a home would be projected to use in a six year period. The more appliances you have using gas the lower the cost of installing the line to your house. The average cost to run the line is about $2400. If your projected gas use over 6 years was more than the cost of the gas line installation, then FCG would pay for the installation. If your projected gas use over 6 years is less than the cost of the installation, the home owner would have to pay a portion of the line installation cost.
So, the question is whether there is sufficient interest within SIA in getting gas service.
If you are interested in getting gas service, please contact Tim Knutson by text or email at the contacts listed below. When he feels he has a sufficient number of responses he will contact the SIA Board. The Board will reach out to the SIA Membership for a vote to approve or deny putting in the gas lines.
