Re: Notice of 2019 Annual Meeting & Call for Nominations
Notice of 2019 Annual Meeting
The Annual Meeting of the Summerplace Improvement Association will take place this year on Saturday, November 16, 2019. Please mark your calendars and plan to join us. Details regarding the 2019 Annual Meeting will be sent to all SIA members in the fall.
SIA Board of Directors Appointment to an Open Position
With the election of board member John Lehnhardt as SIA President, a vacancy has been created on the five member board. The bylaws state:
“The said Board of Directors shall consist of five members and the president or the Association (Article IV, Section 1)”
Unlike the annual election for the Board of Directors in the fall when all SIA members have the opportunity to vote, SIA By-Laws require that an opening on the Board be filled through an appointment by the Board Directors. The bylaws state:
“In the event of a vacancy occurring in the Board of Directors for any reason whatsoever, the remaining directors shall appoint a member to serve as director for the unexpired term. (Article IV, Section 2)”
The Board of Directors has appointed Ronnie Lawn to fill this opening on the Board through the end of this term in November.
Ronnie and his wife Sharon purchased their lot in Summerplace in 2016. They completed their new home on W. Barefoot Pl. early this year and are now full time residents along wth their two dogs. Ronnnie is a practicing Tax and Estate Attorney with degrees from Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, Southwestern University School of Law in Los Angeles, and the College of William & Mary, Marshall-Wythe School of Law. He is a partner in the firm Lawn & LeBlanc here in Vero Beach.
Ronnie has been very active in community service as past President of the Indian River Estate Planning Council, Board Member of the Boys & Girls Clubs Foundation of Indian River County, and a member of several other boards. He us currently an active member of a wide range of local groups including the Indian River County Bar Association, Cleveland Clinic Indian River Hospital Professional Circle, Advisory Board of the Vero Art Museum Planned Giving Committee, Surfrider Foundation and others.
A long time resident of Florida, Ronnie is an avid surfer. When not surfing, Ronnie and Sharon can often be found watering their new home’s landscaping.
Call for Nominations for the SIA Board Board of Directors for 2019-2020
The election of all five SIA Board of Director seats are held yearly at the annual meeting in November. Details on the nominating process are provided in the enclosed 2019 Call for Nominations from Ed Seemann, Chair of the Nominating Committee. This invitation provides any SIA member with the opportunity to express their interest in being considered by the Nominating Committee as a candidate for the SIA Board of Directors.
Please contact Ed with any questions on this process or to discuss your interest in serving on the SIA Board.
SIA Required Rental Registration Form
There have been some challenges with rental properties in SIA in recent months that have caused the he SIA Board to review and modify the rental policy.
The SIA Board has approved a registration form and requirements for all SIA member who rent their properties out at any time. The new form is to be submitted by the property owner to the SIA President at least two weeks in advance of any property rental in the Association. This information will allow the SIA Board to track rental usage and have contact information in case any issues arise during a rental period.
This new form and the General Information Sheet are included in this packet. The General Information Sheet must be provided to the renter. However, property owners are responsible for the actions of their renters. SIA has the right to request that a property owner evict renters in violation of SIA rules and regulations.
The SIA board hopes this registration form wil reduce the number of rental related issues. If this form is not effective in reducing rental issues, the SIA Board wil consider requiring an annual rental bond deposit for owners of rented properties incuring SIA policy or rule violations.
Our goal is to maintain the wonderful atmosphere of our community without infringement on personal property rights and freedoms and without over regulation. We hope this new registration form will serve that purpose.
We hope everyone has a great summer. See all of you around the neighborhood.
John Lehnhardt, President
